Tazo - African Red Bush



I really wanted to like this tea.  Truly I did.

I first tried rooibos when a barista at my local Starbucks offered me a sample of their new vanilla rooibos latte.  It was rather unlike any tea I'd ever had before, with an odd sort of fruity-flowery flavor.  I didn't much care for it.

But, since this tea was included in the gift basket of Tazo teas that I got for Christmas, I wanted to give rooibos another shot.  After all, I'd only ever had it with milk and vanilla added.  Maybe I'd like it better plain.  (At the time, I didn't realize that this wasn't 'plain' rooibos, but another blend.)

Sadly, that was not the case.  This one had an odd floral flavor, on top of some of the unidentifiable tastes from the Starbucks latte.  I tried it with a little sugar, then with more.  I even eventually added some milk, but to no avail.

A word of advice; if you're looking to try rooibos for this first time, skip this one.  There's too much other stuff blended in.  I made that mistake, and for a little while thought that I just didn't like rooibos.  Turns out that I like it just fine; just not with the hibiscus et al.

In short:  This just wasn't to my taste.  If you think that a floral tasting tea sounds good, then feel free to give this one a shot.  If not, then I'd say skip it.

 

Type:  Rooibos tea (Flavored with hibiscus and rosemary)
 

Brewing Specifics:
-- 2 tea bags in a full 14 oz. mug
-- Pour boiling water in, cover, steep for 5 minutes
-- Remove tea bags
-- Add some sugar (and possibly milk) to taste
